It's a new year and I'm back at work and the routine. Which means I have limited stitching time in the evening. I can probably only do an hour or so before I get tired.
But I did put an hour in yesterday and got a third of the way through Walt the Malt. Will try to finish tonight...

1 day, one ornament
Happy New Year! It would have been better if NU pulled one out in the Outback Bowl, but a great game regardless.
I finished my first ornament today! Joy by Lizzie Kate. I was done stitching it by the end of the Outback Bowl and decided to finish it right away. Some observations...
1. Oval shaped ornaments are difficult to shape right
2. I should have the fabric cut down to fit into a hoop
3. I need better mounting board
I would give this first ornament a B-. It could be shaped and mounted a little better, but the trim looks great on it so that helps with the overall look. I used some of the red felt for the backing and some of the ribbon I bought yesterday from Vogue (need to get more ribbon).
So I'm on the lookout for mounting board. We might go to a movie tomorrow and if so there's an art store - I can pop in and see if they have any.
Here's to a Happy (and productive) New Year! I'm ready to watch the Rose Bowl and veg out now :)

I went to the frame shop today to pick up two pieces - "Scatter Pumpkins" by Shepherd's Bush and "Red-Winged Blackbird" by Bent Creek. Dropped off "Delivering Summer."
Right next door to the frame shop is a fabric and notions store, and so I picked up everything else I think I need to finish my ornaments. I got pins, ribbon, cording and some Christmas cotton print fabrics. Total: $63.41. So my four ornaments are certainly up in price per.

Delivering Summer (And Charms)
I finished Delivering Summer today by Homespun Elegance. The goat looks awesome - very lifelike.
Also, I found where I had a stash of Homespun Elegance charms - and I did have one brass snowflake left. Plus there are some other charms that will look good on other ornaments and I can use the Mill Hill charms on others as well.
Now I plan on finish getting as much together as I can for the first four ornaments before Friday...

More Supplies
After having lunch with the husband, I stopped by the local craft store and got some more supplies for post-stitching. I got some polyester fiber-fill, some needles, felt squares in various colors (super-cheap) and some adhesive and non-adhesive foam board.
I almost got a cording drill but will see if I can just buy some cording from the fabric store.
Total: $23.05

Kitting
Working on getting my ducks in a row today. I am trying to finish up "Delivering Summer" by Homespun Elegance. I also want to finish the November teacup by JABC before the New Year.
Thought I would have time to kit the ornaments before going to lunch. I have to take a train, and walk the dog, plus my husband called with a powerpoint question, so all I had time to do was cut the fabric for three of the ornaments and put them in bags.
When I get back from lunch I plan on popping in Mad Men and finishing Delivering Summer.

Ordering Supplies
Update: So the internet is back and I’m looking through my inventory to see what I need for the first four ornaments.
Joy – for the cross-stitch part I need nothing! It calls for 32-count Toasted Almond linen, which I actually have a piece of, and 4 Weeks Dye Works colors that I don’t even need to look up that I have, since I just did the 2009 Lizzie Kate Santa that uses the same colors.
Walt the Malt – I have the natural linen. I don’t have some of the Sampler colors but can substitute with DMC or a match to another hand-dyed color. I don’t have the buttons, but I have a $20 gift certificate so can order them and probably won’t cost anything.
Snow Merry – can use some of my natural-color fabric. This mostly uses DMC and no surprise I have a lot of it. It also calls for a snowflake charm from Homespun Elegance – now, I know I bought a winter charm pack from them, but of course I can’t find it so I’m not sure if I have another snowflake charm. So I might need to buy another charm or pack.
Plaid Greetings – This one calls for Winter Sky Linen from Lakeside Linens and I thought I would use another blue fabric from R&R but it’s kind of dark. So I might need to order a light-blue fabric. I will need to order Garnet from Weeks Dye Works. I have Mill Hill gold beads, but need to order a small red star from JABC.
So I went to 123Stitch.com and ordered the Garnet from Weeks and 32 count Lavender Bliss Belfast Linen – enough to make another ornament. I also swapped out the Homespun charm for Mill Hill Treasures charms, and was able to get the red star for Plaid Greetings. Total Cost: $17.59.
I will also place my order for the Walt buttons with Shakespeare’s Peddler – again should be free.
So average of about $4.50 for each ornament, before trim and finishing. Not too bad.
The first ornament up will be Joy since it’s only 4 colors and no embellishments. Might work on it New Year’s Day since my husband will be playing Dungeons and Dragons….
